  15. This document refers to shareware application 'Soccer ScoreSheet',
  16. version 9.  Extensive details are provided in the on-line help.  Without
  17. exception all rights to Soccer ScoreSheet belong in perpetuity to the
  18. authors.

  20. Note:  This document and contents and all other references shall at all
  21. times be subject to being superceded by a later version.  At all times
  22. the latest version of this application made publicly available by the
  23. authors shall take precedence, immediately cancelling and replacing all
  24. earlier versions and extents.  Please contact the authors to clarify and

  28. Overview
  29. ========
  30. 'Soccer ScoreSheet' is a Microsoft Windows(r) application for the
  31. management of soccer league data.  It also comes complete with many
  32. features to assist football pools enthusiasts and syndicates.  All
  33. features are highly user-customisable to suit any soccer league or
  34. competition arrangement, at professional, amateur, world-wide, regional
  35. and local levels of the sport.

  37. If you evaluate this software and decide that it is not what you want
  38. because it lacks a feature that you would really like to see, please
  39. tell us - we may be able to help!  In the past many good ideas which
  40. have been implemented have come directly from user feedback - sometimes
  41. those ideas are turned around in just a day or two, to the surprise of
  42. our users!

  45. About Shareware
  46. ===============
  47. Many potential users provide shareware with a less than desirable
  48. reputation, inferring that the quality of such software is always below
  49. an acceptable standard.  Doubtless there is software being distributed
  50. as shareware that gives the concept such a bad reputation, however we
  51. believe you will quickly find with this application that it is of the
  52. highest quality.  We sincerely believe in providing both the best
  53. product AND the best support possible to all of our users!

  56. Target Audience
  57. ===============
  58. The target audience for this application falls into two main categories:
  59.  
  60. *  Those who have a regular need to manage and keep soccer league
  61.    statistical information up to date.  For example league coordinators,
  62.    club secretaries, or private individuals who keep their own
  63.    statistics.
  64.  
  65. *  Those who regularly submit entries to football pools competitions who
  66.    need instant access to team form and past history.  This would also
  67.    include pools syndicates.

  70. Major Features - League Management
  71. ==================================
  72. *  Highly user-configurable league management.  Suitable for professional
  73.    or amateur league and/or competition systems (currently known to be
  74.    in use with several UK league clubs and organisations).
  75.  
  76. *  Automatic league table generation from results entered, with
  77.    user-defined team sorting.
  78.  
  79. *  Automatic match schedule generation for a complete season.
  80.  
  81. *  Multiple user-configurable match categories to allow user to keep
  82.    track of league and non-league matches.

  84. *  Instant access to team fixture history.
  85.  
  86. *  Automatic generation of divisional home/away results and home/away
  87.    dates tables, as presented by popular magazines and books.

  89. *  Team statistic information is multi-page.  Each page is
  90.    user-configurable as to statistical data presented.

  92. *  Division sorting algorithm is user-configurable.

  94. *  Team position and/or position change shown on a weekly basis - user
  95.    can define which day of the week to use for positioning purposes.

  97. *  Hardcopy printed reports.  Plus auto-copy detail to Windows clipboard
  98.    or external text file for sharing with other applications.

  100. *  SDF, copy to clipboard or external text file Import/export facilities
  101.    provided, for sharing data with other applications.

  103. *  Colour representation is user-configurable.

  105. *  User can set individual team colour representation, thus allowing
  106.    particular teams to be immediately identified in a visual context
  107.    when viewing divisions etc.

  109. *  User can set division colours, enabling matches played between teams
  110.    belonging to different divisions to be immediately identifiable via
  111.    the Fixtures Dialog.

  113.  
  114. Major Features - Pools Prediction
  115. =================================
  116. Note:  Many users do not make use of the prediction features because
  117. they have no need of these for their own requirements.  The prediction
  118. features are supplemental to the league management features.
  119.  
  120. The authors do not intend to misrepresent the capabilities of this
  121. application.  Whilst the use of this application MAY increase the
  122. chances of winning on football pools competitions, the authors do not
  123. make any such claim.  No computer program can be expected to reliably,
  124. consistently and accurately predict the outcomes of any sporting event
  125. prior to it having taken place.  The user must use their own judgement
  126. with regard to whether this software can help with predicting results.
  127.  
  128. *  Multiple user-configurable prediction algorithms to suggest most
  129.    likely result of matches yet to be played.  Each algorithm is based
  130.    wholly on statistical comparison of pertinent home/away team data.
  131.  
  132. *  Multiple perm support, allowing user to configure multi-column perm
  133.    arrangements and compare different perms across time.
  134.  
  135. *  Automatic data-update subscription service for registered users
  136.    (primarily for users with Email facilities).
  137.  
  138. *  Significant use of colour representation for prediction purposes.
  139.    Colours are user-definable.
  140.  
  141. *  Graphical analysis of predicted vs actual results.  User can define
  142.    result types (home, away, draw etc.), and date range.
  143.  
  144. *  Automatic pools-points accumulation and presentation (points awarded
  145.    for results types are user-configurable).
  146.  
  147. *  Graphical analysis of HOT and COLD pools coupon numbers, based upon
  148.    actual results achieved on the pools coupon over time.
  149.  
  150. *  Automatic pools coupon population based upon users defined perm
  151.    and prediction arrangement.
  152.  
  153. *  Calendar functions are colour-coded to give immediate visual feedback
  154.    to the user about which fixture dates still have outstanding results
  155.    etc.

  157.  
  158. Target Platforms
  159. ================
  160. Soccer ScoreSheet is provided as standard with two separate runtime
  161. executables, one a 16-bit application, the other a true 32-bit
  162. application. These executables target the following operating systems:
  163.  
  164.    *  Microsoft Windows 3.x
  165.  
  166.    *  Microsoft Windows 95/NT
  167.  
  168. The data (and other support) files used by this application are 100%
  169. compatible between these versions, allowing a user to migrate between
  170. versions at any time without loss of data.
  171.  
  172.  
  173. Environmental Requirements
  174. ==========================
  175. For MS Windows 3.x a 386 PC (or better).  Recommended 8 megabytes RAM,
  176. and a 66MHz PC or better (will run on a minimally configured PC).
  177.  
  178. For MS Windows 95 a 386 PC (or better).  Recommended 16 megabytes RAM,
  179. and a 66MHz PC or better.
  180.  
  181. All installations require a minimum of 2 megabytes of hard disk space
  182. (not supported when run from a diskette or other removable media).
  183.  
  184.  
  185. Licensing
  186. =========
  187. Soccer ScoreSheet is released under the shareware concept (the author is
  188. a member of the Association of Shareware Professionals).  The shareware
  189. version is fully functional and virtually unlimited for 30 days or 30
  190. hours of cumulative use to allow the user to fully evaluate the
  191. software.  On completion of the evaluation period the software will
  192. still operate, with some non-critical functionality becoming
  193. non-operational. Such functionality will be restored on registration.
  194.  
  195. During the evaluation period the user is provided with the right to use
  196. the software for evaluation purposes, without obligation to obtain a
  197. license.  However, once the evaluation period is over (30 days from
  198. installation or 30 hours use), this right is automatically revoked.
  199.  
  200. Licensing is provided on a named-individual basis only to help prevent
  201. possible fraud/illegal distribution.  Registration will NOT be carried
  202. out in the name of a club or other organisation.
  203.  
  204. The user is REQUIRED to obtain a license from the authors to allow
  205. continued use of the software on completion of the evaluation period, by
  206. payment of the requested fee (see the on-line help under 'Registration'
  207. for further information, from where a registration form can be printed).
  208. Acceptance of the registration fee by the authors will provide the user
  209. with the non-transferrable, non-exclusive and revokable permission to
  210. continue using this software, and both the user and authors shall be
  211. bound to the terms and conditions as expressed in the LATEST PUBLICLY
  212. AVAILABLE VERSION.

  214. WITHOUT EXCEPTION all rights to Soccer ScoreSheet and its extents,
  215. including but not limited to copyright and intellectual rights, belong
  216. to the authors in perpetuity - payment for registering this software
  217. does not under any circumstance transfer these rights.  Licensing is
  218. provided on a single-user basis only.  Full details and terms and
  219. conditions are contained within the on-line help under 'Registration'.
  220.  
  221. Failure to obtain a license from the authors on completion of the
  222. evaluation period, or attempting to extend the evaluation period using
  223. methods not supported by the authors renders further use of the software
  224. an illegal activity on the part of the user.  Such activity will be
  225. subject to legal action if considered appropriate by the authors.

  227.  
  228. Warranty
  229. ========
  230. Installation and/or use of this software is entirely at the users own
  231. risk.  With the sole exception of defective media (which shall be
  232. replaced without charge if notified within 15 days of shipment) THERE IS
  233. NO WARRANTY PROVIDED WITH THIS SOFTWARE.

  235. Any and all harmful and/or unexpected side effects of installing and/or
  236. using this software will be the sole responsibility of the person
  237. undertaking the installation and/or use.  Under no circumstance can the
  238. authors be held liable for consequential effects of installing/using
  239. this software.  Any claims for damages and/or harmful effects shall be
  240. limited to the maximum of a single registration fee.

  245. Registration Options
  246. ====================
  247. The user may choose from a number of options to facilitate registration.
  248. These options are explained in detail within the on-line help provided
  249. with the application (see under 'Registration').  Registration may be
  250. performed via the Registration Dialog which is made available
  251. immediately upon startup of the application.
  252.  
  253. Options include cheque, cash and credit card.  On-line transactions can
  254. be carried out via an arrangement undertaken with the Public (software)
  255. Library.
  256.  
  257.  
  258. Registration Benefits
  259. =====================
  260. *  Latest version on a diskette, includes both Win3.x and Win95 versions.
  261.  
  262. *  The most up to date UK league tables the authors have available.
  263.  
  264. *  Personalised copy of the application, via user name/unique serial
  265.    number.  This will allow the user to personalise all future version
  266.    8's that may be released (this may roll over to version 9 or beyond
  267.    at the discretion of the authors).
  268.  
  269. *  Database updates for users with Email facilities are available.  This
  270.    is a low-cost SUBSCRIPTION service (please contact the authors to
  271.    request further details as it requires the purchase of an additional
  272.    utility to support this arrangement).
  273.  
  274. *  Free technical support from the authors (minimum of six months or
  275.    until the next major release, whichever comes sooner).
  276.  
  277. *  The registered version will automatically populate the next season
  278.    detail at the end of a season, copying across all relevant
  279.    information from the previous season to the next.
  280.  
  281. *  Registered version loads from/saves to an unlimited number of data
  282.    files.
  283.  
  284. *  An optional pack of utility software is available to work with the
  285.    registered version of Soccer ScoreSheet.  Utilities include a data
  286.    importer to allow the database to be updated automatically from the
  287.    SoccerSlot subscription service, plus a web page creation utility
  288.    which will automatically publish web pages of your own design at the
  289.    click of a button.
  290.  
  291. *  A subscription service is available to allow us to send you monthly
  292.    database updates on diskette.  This service will also provide any new
  293.    version of Soccer ScoreSheet that may be released.
  294.  
  295.  
  296. Support
  297. =======
  298. Technical support from the authors is available to all users.  For
  299. registered users this support shall be a minimum of six months from the
  300. date of registration, or until the next major release.  For
  301. non-registered users this support shall apply only to the evaluation
  302. period of the software (thus, maximum 30 days from first installation).
  303. Priority will be given to registered users at all times.
  304.  
  305. The authors will always provide their best efforts to resolve problems
  306. and/or bugs in a timely manner.
